About me
My name is Rachael and I am based in Chelmsford. I am originally from the Wirral but moved to Essex in 2022 after I got engaged.
I qualified as a primary school teacher in 2019 and have worked in schools ever since. I have taught and supported across KS1 and KS2 and I have also worked closely with children with various needs such as ASD, ADHD and dyslexia. Prior to teaching, I gained a 1st class degree in psychology.
I started tutoring after the Covid lockdowns, as I could see first hand the impact it was having on children's educational attainment and their mental health, and I wanted to offer support. I spent over 2 years working at a tuition centre teaching 11+ classes, as well as providing general English and maths boosts to children in Years 3-6. In total, I have tutored over 100 children in the last few years alone, so have plenty experience of adapting my teaching style!
Since moving, I now work independently offering 1:1 tailored provision for children at their homes in the Chelmsford area, and I love every second of it!
My approach
I believe that the way to help children make progress is by first helping them with their confidence and self-esteem, and encouraging them to believe in themselves! No matter the age or subject being taught, my lessons are always a safe space for making mistakes and I use positive praise constantly. Every little win counts! My goal is to help children realise that they are capable, resilient, amazing learners and that just because they can't do something now, doesn't mean they will never be able to!
I always tailor my lessons to the individual student, targeting the current area of need whilst also building upon prior learning to ensure progress. I am always sure to feedback to parents to let them know how their child has got on, and what we need to work on next. Parents comment that I am a patient, friendly tutor that gets to know their child and what their child needs, and that they have made great progress at school as a result of my tutoring!

How can I book sessions?

Do you offer free trial lessons?
I don't offer free trial lessons.
Do you offer group classes?
At the minute I offer personalised 1:1 tuition at your house or online, but I am considering offering group classes at a discounted rate in the future (logistics willing!).
What is your cancellation / 'no show' policy?
I operate a 24-hour minimum cancellation policy. I understand that life can be very hectic, so I try and always find the time to rearrange lessons should you have to cancel. However, if no suitable time can be found, then unfortunately clients will be charged. Repeated cancellations may result in your tutoring being stopped.
FAQs
How do you assess my child?
In the first session or two, I use this opportunity to ‘assess’ your child’s overall skills. This isn’t a test, it’s more of a skills check. I use this as a means of ‘ticking off’ what your child is familiar and comfortable with, and where the gaps may be. This then forms the basis of my subsequent lessons.
What resources does my child need?
Stationery and a smile is all that is needed, unless alternative arrangements have been made!
Do you give out homework?
I aim to not put any extra pressure on your child, so I don't ordinarily give out homework, but this can be arranged if requested. The only exception to this is my 11+ clients, where I might start giving out homework in the form of practice tests as we get closer to the exam.
